The Tale of a Thought Bubble

There once was a little thought bubble named Bubbles.

Bubbles didn’t remember being created.

One moment, he wasn’t there, and the next, there he was.

“Ah!” Bubbles said, looking around.

“I must be very important.”

He began floating until he saw a group of people.

“Well, this is promising,” Bubbles said.

“I shall introduce myself.”

By the time Bubbles reached everyone, a woman noticed him.

“Oh,” she said, “that must be true.”

She grabbed onto him and started building a whole story around him.

Bubbles grew.

New worries formed.

Old memories joined in.

A few dramatic conclusions showed up uninvited.

Bubbles was now enormous.

“Well… this escalated quickly,” Bubbles said.

Then suddenly, she paused.

“Wait,” she said. “That’s just a thought.”

And for the first time, she didn’t follow it.

She loosened her grip. The story stopped.
Worries packed up and left.

Bubbles shrank a little, then a little more.

“Well,” he said, brushing himself off, “that was intense.”

And with nothing left holding him in place,
he drifted upward,
until he floated off,
looking for another adventure.

Something to Sit With

Sometimes a thought feels true the moment it appears, just like Bubbles did.

Like, “They probably think I messed that up.”

And before we realize it, we’ve built a whole story around it.

To look is simply to notice the thought,
before we grab it,
before it begins to grow.

Quest’s Note

Bubbles rise.
Not all of them need catching.
